George C. Wang, MD, PhD, FACP

Founder and Physician

Dr. George Wang is passionate about the whole-person approach to health and the use of functional medicine and integrative medicine therapeutic principles in the prevention, treatment, and reversal of chronic diseases. He emphasizes a holistic approach as the foundation to living a positive, long, and healthy life. In his practice, he integrates scientific evidence with clinical experience — to offer patients the highest level of individualized care, give them confidence in their own health, and empower them to be healthier.

Dr. Wang has been practicing medicine in the academic and private practice settings for over 20 years. He provides medical care to adults 18 years and older. Prior to founding Wisdom Health and Wellbeing, he was formerly on the full-time medical faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Columbia University Medical Center.

Dr. Wang is certified in Functional Medicine by the Institute for Functional Medicine, board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also holds a certificate and licenses to practice acupuncture as a physician acupuncturist in New Jersey and New York. In his practice, Dr. Wang brings integration of scientific evidence and effective therapeutic modalities to the care of his patients. He is passionate about whole-person healing and the power of food as medicine in preventing, treating, and reversing chronic diseases.

​​Dr. Wang has been a speaker, planning committee member, and symposium chair in numerous medical conferences given for physician/clinician audiences at the national and international level, including the International Congress on Integrative Medicine & Health. As a physician-educator, Dr. Wang has given lectures for physicians on integrative/functional medicine and acupuncture at various academic medical centers nationally and internationally, including the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Columbia University Medical Center.

Dr. Wang is also a physician-scientist who incorporates critical evaluations of clinical research evidence into patient care. While on the full-time medical faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he served as both an attending physician and clinical researcher. He is a former recipient of multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH) and foundation research grants. In his clinical investigation path, he was mentored by Dr. N. Franklin Adkinson, a magnanimous allergist-immunologist who founded the clinical investigation training programs at Johns Hopkins. In his research on autoimmune disease, he was mentored by Dr. Noel R. Rose, who has been called the "father of autoimmunity," and with whom he published peer-reviewed research on thyroid autoimmunity. In his research on the immune system, he was mentored by Dr. Peter C. Doherty, Nobel laureate, who discovered the nature of T-cell mediated immunity.
